Temporary protected status has been extended for certain Salvadoran nationals. It has been extended for an additional 18 months beginning March 10, 2012, and ending on September 9, 2013. Current beneficiaries of protected status must re-register during the sixty day re-registration period that will last until March 12, 2012. Immigration Attorneys stress that the Federal Register notice is incorrect in stating that registration applications must be in by March 9, 2012. The correct date is March 12.
Because of the extension, current Temporary Protected Salvadorans will be able to apply for new Employment Authorization Documents. The new expiration date will be September 9, 2012. Applicants must submit Form I-765 and Form I821 with the application fees in order to be eligible. If they cannot afford the fee a fee waiver form must be completed. That form number is I-912. For more information on this extension and to download copies of the forms, check the US Immigration website.
