The Various Types of Wind Chimes

2012
02.19

Did you know that there are not only wooden wind chimes but also metal wind chimes, plastic wind chimes, the whole bunch of different other options? I didn’t know this until recently when I decided to buy a pair online. I simply typed in wind chimes into Google thinking that I would get a few different results. However, much to my surprise, I realized that there’s a whole industry based on wind chimes. There are some that are extremely large, with perfect sculptures that produce tremendous melodies and sounds. They’re also the more basic ones that are you used to from growing up. It’s really fascinating how big this industry has grown, when you think that is a simple little musical device that is played through the wind. I decided to get one of the bigger plastic ones, simply because I wanted to see how it worked, and how it looked comparative my traditional memory at one.

Mini Greenhouses | AltonsWhen we first purchased a house, we were most thrilled about having a front and back yard. After living in apartments for so long, having a great home that with space to play and create outside was new and exciting. Being nature lovers, we wanted to do something with the kids that would show our love for the environment as well as beautified our backyard. In the end, we decided on a mini greenhouse kit to begin growing flowers and plants with the kids.

There are a large variety of mini greenhouses that can grow different amounts of plants and flowers for special purposes. We wanted to start off growing some standard flowers to beautify the backyard, so we choose the Seed Starter Greenhouse for purchase. This greenhouse allowed us to begin growing plants and flower from seeds to full bloom. The flowers made a great addition to our front and back yard and helped us pass on the gift of a green thumb to our children.

I Had Only Ever Heard of Termites Before

2012
01.04

Subterreanean termitesMy neighbor ended up making the diagnosis. I noticed sawdust accumulation in the corners of my kitchen cupboards. I would wipe this debris away and it would miraculously return. My neighbor had a look and confirmed what I had already suspected: termites.

He said that he had the same problem in his house a few years ago. He was able to recognize the tell tale sawdust-like stuff that they produce. He asked me if I had noticed this in any other area of the house. I told him I had not and found myself contemplating just how expensive this might be to solve the problem; what if they were everywhere?

I set out to get some information on termite inspection and found that they are not all that uncommon. I was a bit relieved to find that extermination is fairly easy and in most cases guaranteed. I feel like I got a bit lucky here; some of the other pests that I read about would be much harder to get rid of.

Pros and Cons of LED Grow Lights

2012
01.02

There are plenty of pros and cons to using both regular and led grow lights, but at the end of the day I simply have a pretty significant preference for the led grow lights. This is not to say that I haven’t used any other kinds of lights for indoor growing and found them ineffective in any way. In fact, I have to admit that high pressure sodium lights often produced more of a larger crop yield than my led grow lights did, but it came at a dignificant cost, which is the main thing that I enjoy about led grow lights over any other: the low cost of running them.

My indoor grow room used to consist of rotating metal halide and high pressure sodium lights in order to replicate the environments of summer days in the sun, but it would cost me a huge amount of money in electricity alone. I soon found that I was spending way too much on running them, and a friend told me that I’d probably have good results with led grow lights instead. Now that I’ve been using them for a few years, I don’t see any reason that I would ever want to return to the old days that used to cost me so much money!
